Why Laugh?

Thanks to evidence-based studies we know that laughter has far reaching benefits to our physical and mental health. A  recommended daily dose of sustained belly laughter is 10 to 15 minutes in order to feel the full benefits.

During the expression of laughter our naturally produced ‘happy chemistry’ is released and flows throughout our bodies. This is a joy cocktail of endorphins, (pain relief and happy hormone but technically a neurotransmitter), dopamine (aids motivation), serotonin (mood stabiliser) and oxytocin (bonding chemical).

Furthermore, continual laughter ignites physiological changes such as relaxed muscles, increased oxygen levels in the blood and improved blood circulation.

Scientific studies throughout the world have shown that sustained deep and hearty laughter practised daily could ease stress, depression, anxiety, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, migraines, cancer. Laughter also increases the supply of oxygen to body tissues, boosts immunity and relieves pain.

We are hard wired to laugh, in fact we have been doing so since we were three months old. Laughing is simple, pleasurable, and infectious. It builds resilience, connection, improves performance, is a confidence boost and above all joyful.
